We're looking for a Developer to join our Finance Technology team, based from the NEXT Head Office in Leicestershire!
Join our Finance Technology team as a Software Developer and play a key role in one of the largest transformations NEXT has ever undertaken.
Our team develops and supports the in-house and integrated systems that enable our finance and wider operational teams to run a FTSE 100 business smoothly and securely.
In this role, you will help transition our finance function to a modern Core Accounting System, delivering software that underpins accurate reporting and strategic business decision-making.
Working across both cloud-based and legacy environments, you will build software components, APIs and ETL pipelines using Azure, while modernising existing platforms to current engineering standards.
Whether you are looking to take the next step in your career internally or joining NEXT from outside, you will find a collaborative, supportive environment focused on continuous learning, knowledge sharing and high engineering quality.
- Software Engineering & Design: Turn user stories into clean, readable and maintainable code. Contribute to greenfield applications, enhance microservices and refactor existing systems to modern standards.
- Cloud Integration: Build and maintain scalable APIs, microservices and ETL data pipelines utilising Azure services.
- Delivery Standards: Apply Agile and Technical Delivery Life Cycle (TDLC) practices daily, embedding testing, security, compliance and clear acceptance criteria into all deliverables.
- Sprint Planning: Collaborate with your squad to estimate effort at the component level, supporting clear sprint planning and delivery schedules.
- Resilience & Testing: Write comprehensive unit test plans at the story level to ensure solutions are thoroughly verified and ready for production.
- Product Collaboration: Partner directly with Product Owners to clarify business needs, identify reusable components and build cost-effective solutions.
- Operational Support: Support change management governance and participate in an out-of-hours call-out rota, helping manage and resolve incidents smoothly.
- Community & Learning: Share insights across squads, adopt emerging technical practices and contribute to an inclusive engineering community.
- Core Programming: Practical experience developing applications in C# and the .NET framework.
- Cloud & Data Pipelines: Working knowledge of Azure components, such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Azure Service Bus and Azure Blob Storage.
- Architecture & APIs: Sound understanding of RESTful API design, microservices architecture and software design patterns.
- Database Design: Solid practical knowledge of relational databases, particularly MS-SQL, including schema design and querying.
- Front-End Development: Experience with or an interest in front-end development, especially the Blazor framework.
- DevOps Awareness: Familiarity with Azure DevOps, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and release management.
- Agile Ways of Working: Experience participating in Scrum or Kanban ceremonies and contributing constructively in team settings.
- Pragmatic Problem Solving: Clear communication skills, the ability to partner effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues, and a thoughtful approach to resolving complex issues.
