Vertu Motors plc is one of the UK’s largest motor retailers, generating annual revenues in excess of £5 billion across a network of 200 dealerships, supported by a property portfolio valued at over £300 million. As part of our continued growth, we are now seeking a Project Manager to join our expanding team.
The Vertu Motors property team manages our portfolio largely in-house, covering Real Estate, Property Development, and Property Maintenance. Guided by our mission, “To deliver an outstanding customer motoring experience through honesty and trust,” we are selective about who we welcome into our team.
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager who not only brings strong technical expertise but also demonstrates our core values of Passion, Respect, Integrity, Professionalism, and Recognition.
The role will play an integral part within the property development team, delivering a range of exciting construction projects, refurbishments, and small works across our wide portfolio of over 200 dealerships and brands. This is a key appointment and we are looking for you to have energy, drive, and ambition to maintain the high standards we set, whilst continually seeking to enhance them.
You will report to the Group Property Development Director based at the Support Centre in Gateshead. Whilst this role is based at our National Head Office (TVTE), there will be regular travel across our dealership network nationwide, including occasional overnight stays.
- Responsibility for delivering a wide variety of construction projects from tender through to handover and occupation.
- Ensure all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Manage refurbishment, construction, and small works projects across the dealership network.
- Oversee project compliance with all relevant British Standards, ensuring work is carried out safely.
- Work closely with internal teams and external contractors to coordinate project delivery.
- Monitor project performance, budgets, and timelines, ensuring strong financial control throughout.
- Support the continuous improvement of property standards and processes across the estate.
- Contribute to the successful delivery of retail-focused projects, ensuring a high-quality end product.
We are looking for a highly professional, motivated, and self-managed construction professional who is capable of working independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider team. You will have strong communication skills and be confident managing a varied portfolio of projects across a national network.
You will bring a background in Project Management, Quantity Surveying, or Building Surveying, with a minimum of 5 years’ post-graduate experience. You will be able to demonstrate a successful track record of delivering retail or commercial property projects on time and within budget, alongside a strong understanding of the Built Environment.
With responsibility for a large portfolio of refurbishment and small works projects, you will play an instrumental role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality outcomes, maintaining strong financial control and working within defined budget constraints. The ability to manage deadlines and budgets effectively is essential.
We are also looking for someone with the following knowledge, skills and attributes:
- Strong Project Management skills
- Sound knowledge of building contracts
- Construction specification knowledge
- Contractor negotiation skills
- Health and safety awareness
- Strong financial understanding
- Logical thinking and programme management capabilities
- Excellent communication skills, with an understanding of Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying or Architectural practices
- Experience of Asana project management software (desirable)
Professional membership of a recognised body such as RICS, CIOB or APM would be advantageous, but not essential.
