Job description

As our Engineering Controls Manager, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of our controls and Building Management Systems across our stores and distribution centres. You’ll help us deliver safe, efficient and future ready environments for colleagues and customers by developing world class standards, driving innovation, and ensuring our platforms are fit for today and tomorrow.

You’ll be the expert in your field—often the first layer of management for people or projects—and you’ll bring energy, curiosity and technical leadership to everything you do.

The Hiring Manager for this role is Matthew Reeves-Smith.

  • Identifying opportunities to develop and improve our engineering controls platforms, ensuring they remain robust, modern and scalable.
  • Creating and maintaining world class technical standards that support delivery of the annual Property business plan.
  • Working cross functionally with technical, operational, IT and Property teams to deliver Group technical standards consistently and effectively.
  • Understanding our existing controls platforms and collaborating with colleagues to shape short, medium and long term development plans.
  • Driving continuous improvement by finding better, simpler and more cost effective solutions that create value for customers and the business.
  • Building strong, productive relationships with industry experts, suppliers and internal stakeholders, influencing others to deliver great results.
  • Ensuring the right technical solutions are in place to meet the current and future needs of our stores and distribution centres.
  • Bringing new ideas and technical innovation to keep our controls strategy aligned with industry best practice and emerging technologies.
  • Creating business cases to support trials and initiatives within your product group, contributing to energy reduction and operational improvement plans.
  • Leading or supporting project design and delivery, including writing specifications within the controls and BMS sector.
  • Applying a strong understanding of industry standards and relevant legislation to ensure compliance and best practice across the estate.
  • Experience in engineering controls, BMS or related technical fields.
  • A track record of delivering technical projects, writing specifications and managing suppliers.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills—you energise others and bring people with you.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, always looking for ways to simplify, improve and innovate.
  • The ability to balance customer needs, business priorities and long term strategic thinking.
  • Confidence working cross functionally and building relationships at all levels.
  • A passion for delivering great results, bringing technical innovation and new ideas, ensuring the business stays up to date.
