Job description

At Next, an excellent opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and driven individual to join our Retail Marketing department as an Assistant Visual Merchandise Manager within Womenswear. This role is a 12 month fixed term contract

This key role directly supports the Visual Merchandise Manager in leading the wider team to create inspiring layouts and comprehensive guidance documents across our entire store portfolio. Management experience is ideal, as you will have direct accountability for managing and developing a team of 4.

Reasonable travel and overnight stays will be required at times to conduct store visits and support refits and new store launches.

  • Work independently and take full accountability for layouts, Mockshop coordination, and managing the VM team.
  • Prepare, plan, and implement phase change layouts strictly in line with the critical path.
  • Build effective working relationships with product teams across Womenswear, as well as the Shopfitting and Sales teams to plan highly commercial store layouts.
  • Research, identify, propose, and introduce fresh ideas for departmental layouts and graphics.
  • Brief projects into suppliers and manage them through to completion, including sourcing new equipment alongside the Visual Merchandise Manager.
  • Act as the main point of contact for day-to-day queries from store, product, and field teams. Plan and attend store openings to ensure the delivery of commercial visual standards.
  • Conduct competitive shops and present findings formally and informally as required.
  • Support the management, coaching, and mentorship of your team to encourage continuous growth.

  • Deep visual merchandising knowledge and experience within Womenswear or a similar fashion retail role, alongside a strong understanding of store space management.
  • Up-to-date awareness of upcoming fashion trends, market shifts, and competitor activity.
  • An aspirational, creative outlook with the ability to design equipment, marketing, fixtures, fittings, and layouts tailored seamlessly to the Next brand.
  • Proven management experience with a proactive, self-motivated approach and a passion for mentoring others.
  • Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and flexible in your working patterns, with full availability to travel and stay overnight when required.
